Hi! I’m Melissa! I’m a Nutrition and Wellness Coach working with motivated clients since 2012. I have a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and a Masters Degree in Education specializing in Health and Fitness. I also spent a year studying with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and am a Certified Integrative Health Coach.

I began with Compound Crossfit back in 2011 after a diagnosis of an Autoimmune Disease (Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis). I was sick of being tired and feeling and looking like crap and I knew I needed a major overhaul of my physical, emotional, and mental health.

Prior to that, I was generously donating $29.99 a month to a traditional fitness corporation I rarely saw the inside of. I was also bouncing back and forth between overeating and whatever fad diet or pill was cool at the time. I always looked to food as either a comfort or the enemy. The goal was always to look better (skinny), but no matter how strict my diet became or how many new tricks I tried, I was always left feeling defeated.

At Compound Crossfit, I was forced to turn in a food journal to not only keep me accountable to my goals – but to help my coach understand the “Why” behind my food choices.

In week 1, I turned in what I thought was a beautiful and highly calculated electronic food journal to my coach. She handed it back to me and said, “We need to talk.” I’ll spare you the details (for now) but what resulted was her making me 1. Get a journal to write in (not electronic) and 2. Talk about how each meal made me feel physically and emotionally.  It wasn’t long before I was able to attribute moments of stress, exhaustion, skin breakouts and even digestive issues to specific foods and moods.

Some of my favorite people!

Once I began to FEEL better, I realized the impact diet had as an agent of change. My energy levels went up, my recovery time increased, my headaches and body aches subsided, I was sleeping and pooping regularly (everybody does it!) and my hair and skin was starting to look great. Weight loss and muscle definition were a bonus, but how I felt physically and my ability to better manage my stress became the real outcome.

While I’m taking a break from CrossFit to embark on some lower impact wellness endeavors (Swimming, Yoga, Meditation, Rucking, Hiking and Cycling), this experience gave me a great foundation for a long and happy life and I’m forever indebted to the Compound Community for the outstanding support they have given me through some of life’s toughest challenges.

It is an honor for me to help guide you on your journey.
